Attention, everyone~
Jul. 16th, 2010 12:44 pmI was thinking of digging around for a meme that will let me ask intrusive questions without seeming like a nosy creeper (:D), and I came across this one that
lemniciate (not that I'm calling
lemniciate a nosy creeper or anything...! She just has good taste in memes...? :D;;) just posted:
I know very little about some of the people on my friends list. Some people I know relatively well. But here's a thought: why not take this opportunity to tell me a little something about yourself. Any old thing at all. Just so the next time I see your name I can say: "Ah, there's so and so...she likes office supplies." I'd love it if every single person who friended me would do this.
Tell me about the SPN/J2 BB that you read recently (whether you loved it or hated it)! Or ramble about your research interests (sorry, I just got back from a seminar this morning and it's kind of on the top of my mind ;;;)! Or just tell me something completely random! Especially you lovely new people and sort-of-new people and not-so-new-people-that-I-haven't-talked-to-recently! \o/
And now, if you'll all excuse me, I'm going to go find something to eat and watch some SGA. :>

Date: 2010-07-16 05:10 pm (UTC)I like it when they mix it up write him as rather heroic and trying to do the right thing, if still terrified. It's providing a really lovely counterpoint to his less endearing qualities.
I haven't watched "Underground" yet (I'm not sure what I'm saving it for, now I've seen installements two and three of the Genii plotline), but I'm up to "The Gift".

Date: 2010-07-16 07:18 pm (UTC)Those two episodes are from Season 1, right? Are you starting from the beginning now? Oh, that reminds me, there's a good chance you've read this fic already, but here's the link anyway: http://synecdochic.dreamwidth.org/122553.html -- gen, Elizabeth POV, very interesting take on the pilot episode (this is how I wish Elizabeth was written on the show :x).

Date: 2010-07-16 08:12 pm (UTC)Uh, I'm almost done with season one? From the beginning. Part two of the finale is the only ground that I have left to cover.
That fic is awesome, even only three or four scenes in, though I almost want to stop reading because I love Weir a lot in the canon. I don't think I've ever wanted to be like a fictional character before? Despite the occasional moments of... I'm not sure what the word is. But it feels off. Vacuous, almost? I don't know if it's bad writing or blank acting. Basically, I don't want to ruin this character that I'm basically starting to look up to, even though I'm already cherry-picking the best bits only.

Date: 2010-07-17 01:31 am (UTC)My problem with Elizabeth is that I really want to like her, but sometimes she's kind of flat as a character. I can understand why you wouldn't want to read the fic if you already like the Elizabeth on the show though -- to me, the fic is what Elizabeth had potential to be, but due to poor planning and poor writing (they could have done so much with Elizabeth as a Replicator, but instead, they wrote her off completely), she failed to achieve that potential. :(

Date: 2010-07-16 05:53 pm (UTC)So. What's going on in my life right now? I just finished my Spn BB art, which I LOVED and right now I am signed up for Dean/Castiel Mini-Bang and Big Bang but I'm kinda pissed because I messaged my MB artist days ago and she's just not replying. I wonder if I should stalk her email adress and try getting a hold of her there. I mean, it's only been a few days but then again I don't have that much time to do this, you know? And I like to put a lot of work in my drawings since I handdraw everything and don't manip.
Aside from that, it's almost exam time so I'm pretty busy. To clarify, I study japanese history and korean language and culture in germany, I'm in my 6th semester (so two more and I'll be done) and have 5 exams ahead of me (that's not much actually), plus various papers. I'm studying my ass off and still have the feeling that it's not enough at all.
Maybe more about me? Let's see. I have a very unhealthy hair obsession. I love shoes. I spend entirely too much time in my bed with my laptop, watching shows. Oh! My favorite show right now is Pretty Little Liars. I don't know, the actresses are just so pretty and the show has all that drama, I kinda like it. And it doesn't really strain my brain too much which I need during exam time.
Hm, what else. I love reading that Star trek fic right now, that's pretty frequently updated. It's called "Prince Charming" and is about Kirk and Spock being bonded at birth but only getting to know each other a few months before Spock's pon farr is supposed to start. They kinda try to date and get to know each other before they are going to have to have sex. It's pretty funny because all their dates, like, totally suck.
Wow, long post is long. I know you just asked for one thing but I couldn't decide what would interest you, so I kinda told you everything I could think of. I'mma stop right here, okay? *waves* bye!

Date: 2010-07-16 07:26 pm (UTC)Someone else on my flist had a BB issue (from the spn_j2 BB) where she couldn't get a hold of her artist for a week or two, but eventually everything was sorted out. Maybe try to contact them again or leave a comment on a recent entry in their LJ? And then if that doesn't work, contact the mods and maybe get a reassignment?
Good luck on your exams!
I haven't read that ST fic (to be fair, I haven't been seeking out ST fic either), but that sounds like a fun one. :> Oh man, I don't know how people manage to follow WiPs! I need instant gratification, so I have to wait until fics are complete before I start. ;)

Date: 2010-07-16 06:14 pm (UTC)Well, I do like office supplies. But you were possibly looking for something a little more original than that! Well. Right now I am grad schooling it out and avoiding my supervisor because I haven't done enough. *hides* but it's summer! It calls to me to be outsiiiiide. My research interests... yeah. Not so much.
Oh, and, the last BB I read was Coda, which I mostly liked! The premise is good and funny, the plot believable (mostly), but it just gets a liiiiittle bit too bogged down by endless internal monologues that interfere with the pacing. Author, find a balance between show and tell, please!

Haha, omg, are you me? I haven't contacted one of my project supervisors since forever, and the more I delay it, the more freaked out I get. It's like this terrible negative cycle where I just can't win. D: And BC is so pretty during the summer (I've only been there once, and it was during the summer, and I was so impressed XD), so I can't blame you for wanting to be outside (you should drag your computer to the beach and read articles there! I would so do that, but our beaches here aren't particularly impressive).
I have that fic bookmarked, but mostly because the art (the website, the vid) was so awesome. :>

Date: 2010-07-16 10:36 pm (UTC)I'm going to be boring and steal your topics. ;) I'm now studying marketing (consumer behaviour, to be slightly more specific) -- I just finished my first year, and I have a love/hate relationship with my program and my research. I can't remember which BB I read most recently, but the one that stands out in my mind is the J2 AU 'Reanimated', which had a delightfully interesting plot and setting.

Umm, in actual news...I bought some political biography books because they are slashy and they are going to help me write fic. Yeaaaaah. Pathetic.
Still have 0 words written for my dissertation...
You should get a twitter. :P
I need to write some letters. And win one more fountain pen and get some scented ink!
Er idk what else has been happening, you know like everything that goes on in my life that's even vaguely interesting. Also you need to get on MSN more often. :P

Date: 2010-07-17 01:34 am (UTC)I heard! I always knew you were a terrible, terrible person. ;)
Write your dissertation on slashy politics...or something like that! Two birds, one stone!
What would I do with a Twitter? D: I don't want to be a Twit! D:
How many fountain pens do you have now? Speaking of letters, I'm ready to send off your postcard! :D
Oh man, I haven't been on MSN since forever. What messenger program do you use? I'm not liking the Mac version of MSN very much. I tried aMSN, but it was slow and didn't allow me to sort my contacts in the way I wanted.

Date: 2010-07-17 01:58 am (UTC)And ikr! I've been telling people that all along, yet my flist and rl friends insist that I'm a nice, friendly person with no problems! :P Only some anonymice who don't even know me can tell that I'm a DEEP DARK EVIL PERSON! ;D
lol I wish...but um too late to change my topic. :P
LOLLLLLL you mean a twat ;p Well, I use twitter a lot, so it'd be fun to see more friends on it XD You talk about random things in your life! Like today I tweeted 'in my dream I met DAlex and also DCam became president of the US in addition to PM" and "ugh I need moar tea now D:" :P
I use Adium. :P You should check it out! :P I'm too often online with no one to talk to! :P

Date: 2010-07-17 03:01 am (UTC)lol...um...Well...I couldn't pass up the Montblanc, and er it turned out one of the pens I got for free was a POS...so I have to buy another one to replace it since I bought so many inks, and yeah...Not buying any more after this next one, though, until I have a paycheck and can pay like £350 for a Montblanc. ;_; And then after that I want to get a Montegrappa. (Yeah, luxury brand pens, what am I coming to. :P)
Umm...I don't think the Montblanc I won will arrive before your postcard...so it may have to be the one after next. ;p

Date: 2010-07-17 02:00 am (UTC)I have...6. Three in my possession, one being shipped, and two others I need to pay for. 3: And scented ink omg, I might die if I get it. In any case...will most def. write on the next postcard you with a fountain pen! ;) Looking forward to your postcard :D

Date: 2010-07-17 01:42 am (UTC)Also, I loooove rambling about research interests! Even though I'm not in school anymore, heh. I am forever interested in Restoration drama because I'm thrilled the pieces by the way the theatre in that time seemed to be this collaboration between audience and actors, a passionate, impermanent experience, while at the same time printed playtexts were beginning to circulate, and intense celebrity gossip sprung up around actors and playwrights, and there was this interest in documenting theatrical performance.
And I haven't read ANY BBs, sorry! *fandom fail*

Date: 2010-07-17 02:04 am (UTC)I think it's awesome when people are so enthusiastic about something that they read about it and search out more information about it, especially if it's not even for school. \o/ I know nothing about drama, but your description of Restoration drama sounds really interesting. What time period did it emerge (and does the style still exist? haha, sorry for my complete ignorance)?
Not a single BB? :O Are you saving up a huge list of BB's to read later? ;)
no subject
Date: 2010-07-17 02:16 am (UTC)Heh, don't worry about not knowing! It's not a period that people know much about unless you're studying it! The Restoration period is between 1660 and 1710 -- beginning when the monarchy was "restored" after the Puritan Revolution (Oliver Cromwell). The Puritans outlawed the theatre during their reign, so there was an exciting resurgence in drama during the Restoration!
Urgh, I don't know! I haven't been feeling the urge to read these epic fics lately. :( I have several bookmarked, though! Hopefully I'll start feeling it soon.

Date: 2010-07-17 12:33 pm (UTC)Okay, so something random about me. I sang at Epidavros once. We were on a trip there and the tour guide asked for volunteers to sing so my little sister and I stood in the middle of the amphitheatre and sang in front of everyone who was there visiting. It was such an out of character thing for me to do because I'm so shy.
