I went on an ~epic ~roadtrip with [livejournal.com profile] lilie_charlotte (M) last week to Canada's east coast. We hit three provinces in nine days, attempted to sing along to Korean pop (trololol), took a bajillion photos, got lost, got stuck in a ditch in the middle of nowhere at night, went to a police station, ate a McLobster, and Other Things.

Thank goodness M's cell phone has better reception than mine because we relied on its gps for the entire trip. My phone's reception failed as soon as we got out of range of the bigger cities. /o\ I think we would've been a lot tenser if we were driving around the countryside with no cell reception on either of our phones! M kindly chauffeured me around because I can't drive. ;) I also can't navigate all that well (HOW DO HIGHWAYS WORK a;sldkfjsdlfjLOOPS) and have a tendency to fall asleep in moving vehicles -- it's quite mentally tiring to stay awake and keep an eye out on the road + Google maps on a teeny iPhone screen. XD;;

Details and photos under the cut!

epic rocks! epic lighthouses! epic ocean! )

We had expected this trip to be more relaxing than our UK and NYC trips. We were planning to sit on the beach and read; I downloaded a bunch of fics and podfics to read and listen to. That didn't happen. XD There wasn't even any time for me to nap!

Also, I was dumb and left my cell phone charger at the last B&B we stopped at. Thankfully, the owners said they'd mail it back to me. ^^;; In the meantime, I've connected my Android phone with my mom's Blackberry Playbook cable to the iPhone charger that I stoleacquired from my dad.

THE END. (this post took forever to write. I'm going to bed now. \o\ I feel like I could sleep for a week!)

1.

There's something about the end of the winter holidays that makes me want to take up knitting. XD So I've started up again, with the help of my mom (I swear, every time she sighs and takes the knitting from me to fix it/examine the problem/double-check, I'm sure she's thinking, "Y U SO DUMB, CHILD /o\" She denies it, but I know better). I still don't know which one's a purl and which one's a knit, but whatevs, this pattern seems to be working for me. :> I have too many scarves so this is going to be a bag! Exciting!

2. Photos from NYC in the cut below (not a lot of photos this time, for two main reason: 1) it was too cold to constantly dig out my camera! & 2) my camera doesn't do well at night or indoors, so the pictures didn't turn out all that well)

+7 )

3. There is no third point. Oh, wait, yes there is. New SPN tonight! I think it's about a hooker, or babysitting, or both (or maybe it's about Alec's One True Love crossovering and turning into a monster hooker, idk). I would rather it be about a ~unicorn~.

I got back from my trip to the UK with [livejournal.com profile] lilie_charlotte on Friday and spent most of the weekend in a haze (ignoring my school email account, catching up on fic and LJ, sleeping and eating). It was a fun but hectic two weeks, and my vacation time is pretty much over, sadly.

This trip was my first time in Europe, my first time planning a trip without the input (or monetary assistance XD) of my parents, and my first time travelling with a friend. Our days were pretty much jam-packed and between the two of us, we took probably around 3000 photos. We somehow managed to get lost in every city we went to, even with the aid of an iPad (though, to be fair, Google Maps didn't work without wifi and the maps we'd downloaded weren't terribly detailed. ...and also, we're kind of directionally challenged ;;;), so there was a lot of: "We have to turn left here" and "No, dude, we totally need to turn right" and "WTF HOW ARE WE LOST AGAIN".

More details and photos (thumbnails; click to enlarge) under the cut!

From my trip to San Diego! \o/

13 more under the cut, shrunken to reduce likelihood of internet!death )

My mom bought a new super!camera (DSLR) before our trip and left me with what she fondly calls the "dummy" camera (point-and-shoot) -- but hey, it's not the size that matters! ...right?
fishpatrol: (how *you* doin')
My last entry made my trip sound like a disaster (well, it kind of ended in disaster...), but I actually did manage to have fun, especially in Yunnan. I have over, idk, 500 photos and I picked about twenty of them to post:

Moar point-form \o/ (and links instead of images so I don't break anyone's internet connection)
All photos are un-Photoshopped and scaled down.

Beijing:

-Cranes, birds of the Orient. (I think this dude said it first) This is the view on the right side of Tienanmen Square. Tienanmen Square is one of those places that's really only worth going once, imo -- nothing to see except people, people, more people (though this time, when we went, it was pretty empty...for Chinese standards), and Mao's mug.

Kunming:

-The biggest and brightest rainbow I'd ever seen. I had to take the photo from a moving vehicle, so it's a bit shaky, which is a pity. At one point, you could actually see two distinct rainbows arching over the highway.

From Kunming to Lijiang, in the sky:

-A sea of clouds. I had never been on so many plane rides in the span of so few days. We flew from Toronto to Beijing, Beijing to Kunming, Kunming to Lijiang, Lijiang to Kunming, and then Kunming to Beijing. And this was under one week. I'm not terribly keen on flying, but the view from the window is always spectacular.

And the rest... )

There, done, whew.

I got back yesterday evening; I ate, did a bit of catching up on LJ, and then slept for twelve hours straight. The most productive thing I did today was clear out my suitcase, but my room still looks like a disaster zone, so maybe I wasn't all that productive, really.

My travel route was like this:

Beijing -> Yunnan (Kunming -> Lijiang -> Shangri-la -> Lijiang -> Kunming) -> Beijing -> Hubei (Wuhan) -> Shanghai -> Jiangsu (Jiangyin) -> Shanghai

Just a couple of points for now before I get my photos uploaded:

Beijing:
-People in China are concerned to the point of being paranoid over the swine flu. All the workers in the airport wore masks and rubber gloves. In fact, a dude clad in green scuba goggles, surgical mask, and white lab coat came on to our plane before we were allowed to disembark, and assessed our body temperatures by pointing this little white gun-like thing at our foreheads. I had to stifle my giggles when it was my turn. I really wanted to take a photo of the guy, but I wasn't sure if it would be appropriate. Or, like, if I would get dragged off to jail. (Later though, my dad informed me that on his flight, even the flight attendant took a photo)

And the rest... )

I kind of miss China the way I miss places after staying for more than one week. Now that I'm home again, back in the same chair, at the same desk, glued to the same screen, it's almost as if I never left.

Anyway, illustrated ramblings tomorrow. I wish I could maintain the sleep schedule of 11pm to 8am, but it's only my second night back and I'm already reverting back to 1am to 11am.

I tried catching up on LJ, but I gave up at ?skip=bajillion. So what've I missed and what've you guys been up to for the past three weeks?
