1. My new year's resolution is to be less of an antisocial hermit (I kick-started this resolution by actually going to a new year's eve party rather than rolling myself up in a blanket burrito and reading fic. 10 points to me~) My other resolution is to be less of a failbot, but I'm not doing so well on that one. \o\

1.5 I've noticed that the traffic on LJ has been declining drastically over the past few months (probably due to a combination of the increasing popularity of Twitter/Tumblr/etc and LJ's own fuck-ups). Part of my resolution is to be more social online as well as offline, so tell me how I can interact and socialize with you! Yes, YOU, right there, reading this entry. I am always up for chatting about fannish things and capslocking about random things and, idk, discussions about human behaviour and whatnot.

I'm unalignable on Twitter, fishpatrol at DW (I haven't updated this account since last year \o\ if you post exclusively on DW, let me know! I haven't checked my...reading circle? --is that what they're called?-- in ages); I'm considering opening a Tumblr account, but it is like VORTEX OF UNENDING IMAGES -- you fall in and by the time you climb back out, five hours have already gone by. /o\

2. 2012 has been kind of a shit-show. 2013 hasn't been significantly better, but hey, it's only been two days. (more about this in a locked entry, later -- this is a it's-a-new-year-let's-be-optimistic post)

3. So, about a month ago, I accidentally fell into the hockey RPF fandom, oops. I thought it was just a ~passing ~phase, but I've now recorded a one-hour long podfic and I kind of want to record more, so, uh, IDEK. Poor applegeuse has had to endure my incessant vomming of hockey feels. Mostly, I say stuff like I am totally ~doing ~sports ~wrong, because I care very little about the actual skill of the players, or how good a team is -- I ONLY CARE ABOUT HOW AMUSING THE PLAYERS ARE AS ~PEOPLE (I love watching behind the scenes videos, etc akdslfjdsj). It just so happens that the better players get more interviews/behind the scenes/etc, so I end up liking the ones that play well because of COINCIDENCE. \o\ /o/ \o\ I'll bet I could totally get roped into American football RPF and/or European football (soccer :P) RPF as well, if they had a ton of fics and a ton of lolarious videos sdklafjlad;j THERE IS JUST SOMETHING DELICIOUS ABOUT A BUNCH OF DUDES WHO ARE RIDIC DEDICATED TO A RIDIC GAME AND, LIKE, ~FEEL INTENSE ABOUT THE GAME AND TO EACH OTHER AND ARE PROBABLY ALL FAILBOTS OUTSIDE OF THEIR RIDIC GAME. THEY ARE ALWAYS TOGETHER (LIVING TOGETHER, BEING ON THE ROAD TOGETHER, PLAYING TOGETHER) AND BOND OVER THEIR INTENSE FEELS ABOUT THEIR RIDIC GAME. IT IS LIKE BOARDING SCHOOL STORIES (which I have always enjoyed in real!books and fic :>) BUT MORE ~INTENSE. (I usually blame lemniciate for getting me into random fandoms, but this time, it's totally scintilla10's fault. Well, okay, no, not really. It's mostly because I am weaksauce and just need one picture/fic/podfic to pique my interest. X3;; She mentioned the fandom in passing, I lol'ed at her, and the next thing I knew, I was guzzling down the fics on AO3/listened to all of the podfic at least twice/trawled tumblr looking at images and gifs. *MASSIVE FACEPALM* HOW DID I GO FROM THIS TO THIS? creying and slobbing forever /o\)

3.5 ANYWAY. I doodled applegeuse a little J2 (feat. the alliterative cats) for being a ~good ~sport (hur hur) about the whole thing.



4. On the one hand, there is no such thing as "too much cake". On the other hand, YES, YES THERE IS. TOO MUCH SUGAR, BLERGH BLERGH.

I want to compile tidbits that I remember from each panel that I attended (I actually tried taking notes on my phone, but autocorrect kept trying to fix my shorthand, so now I have a list of notes that barely make any sense at all ^^;;)

Mostly, I just wanted to share this 1-hr audio recording of the J2 panel. The quality is pretty good (i.e. I was able to listen to it and catch a few comments that I couldn't make out during the actual panel), so, idk, download it if you want it for your own listening pleasure. ;)

I am back from my first SPN con ever! It was pretty exciting! I am kind of exhausted and running on fumes now, but if I don't type all of it out now, I won't remember a damned thing by tomorrow. (the people who can listen and tweet at the same time are kind of amazing. I tried and failed miserably.)

Today was full of fannish awesomeness! I didn't get much sleep the night before because I was scrambling to finish a write-up that I really should have completed a week ago (D:) and the thunderstorm hit just as I was about to go to bed (fml).

I was in a zombie state all morning, but my energy picked up when cantarina1, scintilla10, lunchy_munchy, and paraka all came over. So many LJ fangirls in one place! \o/ It never fails to be delightful to have the opportunity to talk about fandom and fannish things with others IRL.

Also, it's totally trippy to meet podficcers face-to-face! Every time I look away while paraka or lunchy_munchy speak, I get a sense of "Omg, it's like listening to podfic! But not! HOW IS THIS REAL LIFE." And then, when I turn back to face them, I'm all, "I recognize those voices! But not the faces! Mindboggling!" (I'm easily mindboggled, so sue me) For the first hour, I was all, "YOU'RE VOICES ON MY IPOD. COME TO LIFE." O_____O

Everyone was so nice! And sweet! And scintilla10 sang a filk! And we all recorded podfic! And I was just listening to the podfic that we recorded and I was all, "THEY BECAME DIGITAL VOICES AGAIN. ONLY, MY VOICE IS WITH THEIRS. HOW IS THIS REAL LIFE." SO TRIPPY, I CAN'T EVEN--

(I just had to share that. I AM MINDBOGGLED. Now I'm going to go get some much needed sleep.)

1. I see that LJ still hasn't addressed the reposting to Facebook/Twitter issue. I won't repost if you won't.

2. There's this big apartment building across from our residence building, and back in August, when I looked out our living room window, I could see what looked like a neon open sign on an upper floor balcony. I said jokingly to my suitemate S., "I'll bet there's a hooker living there and that's the 'Open for Business' sign, so that customers know when to go up." (This is not a far-fetched theory! Rumours say that there are many prostitutes living in that building.) Today, S. looked out the window and noted that we haven't seen the lit-up sign for a while now. I immediately thought to myself, It's because hooker!Jensen has given up the trade since he's met student!Jared who is the love of his life and now they are living happily ever after and the neon open sign will never light up again! This may be an indication to cut back on the J2 AUs. ;;;;

3.5 Inception has finally loosened its claws on me, so now I can divert some attention back to SPN (but I've been in more of a J2 mood lately, idk). I'm not sure if the trailer was for the first two (three?) episodes, or just the first episode; either way, I do hope next week's episode won't disappoint. *crosses fingers*

4. I started yoga classes today. I have a feeling I'm going to be hurting in strange places tomorrow. X3

5. School officially started yesterday -- not that it ever really ended for me (eta: ahaha, this comic says it all. fml /o\), but two classes (and a half? and the weekly seminars), two TA sessions, and two research projects means a lot less slacking on my part. nrrrghhhh

6. Will play comment-catch-up tomorrow. Time to sneak in a teeny bit of fic reading (yes, I suck at being productive, shut up) and then go to bed. I almost fell asleep during the final relaxation period during yoga (I don't know why I was so sleepy! I even took a nap in my office earlier today. ;;;)

I promised myself that I would get some work done tonight (I've been procrastinating like mad, lately -- the best way to stave off a I've-procrastinated-too-much-oh-god-looming-deadline induced panic-attack is to refresh LJ repeatedly -- and yes, this is a terrible, horrible, negative cycle that just cannot end well), but my flist exploded with SPN news from Comic Con (mostly thanks to ontd_spnparty) and I just couldn't resist reading the reports and the spoilers and watching the interviews and the illegally recorded gag reel (there's some awesome clips in this one! :> I can't wait for the full, HQ version). I am a bit D: at some of the spoilers, but I'll wait for the season to start before I go off the rails. ;)

What do you guys (the spoiler-lovers on my flist) think of the spoilers so far? How awesome is the gag reel? How much are you guys looking forward to Season Six (eee~~ [<-- this is a textual rendering of a high pitched sound of excitement and trepidation])? And most importantly: how is Jensen Ackles so damn perfect?

1. HEADLESS PENGUIN LOLLLL. It's round and fuzzy and HAS NO HEAD.

2. This bird is, like, grinning maniacally and grabbing at the cat's face with its claw. It's oddly cute and TOTALLY MADE MY DAY.

3. other communities with daily posts that never fail to make me smile (or gigglesnort): face_of_joe (I have a massive crush on this man. I don't care if he's twenty-one years [minus three days] older than me. LOVE KNOWS NO...er...AGE DIFFERENCES) & heechuladay (this outfit is fifty million kinds of AWESOME)

1. Wonder Boys will never not be delightful to watch (though their previous performance was a bit better). The dance moves! The slinky slinky hips! Hee! How cute are Sungmin and Taemin? And that boy from 2AM (I think...? 2AM and 2PM...are they two different bands? dear_whimsy??) has awesome facial expressions.

2a. So, funny story. Last week, people on LJ were saying how they watched SGA 5x19 and how alkdjfs;k awesome it was. Thing is, the episode is due to air on January 2nd. For a moment, I had thought that maybe I skipped forward in time! Yes, that would mean that I missed out on a week-and-a-half of vacation time, but maybe it would also mean that I had somehow finished all my grad school apps! But then common sense kicked in and I realized the episode was leaked online -- and of course I rushed to download it. I've watched it several times since because it is just that awesome. The downside was that I still had to do all my applications myself (two done, three more to go! or four more. IDK.)

2b. 5x20, the show finale (D:!!!), was leaked online as well. I kind of want to watch it, but at the same time, I really really don't (and not just because of the McKeller line). I never did watch the Season 10 finale of Friends -- I've watched almost every episode of that show at least twice, but not the finale. In my mind, if I don't watch the ending, then it hasn't ended! How's that for awesome logic?

3a. Does anyone know where I could obtain the Merlin soundtrack? I found a handful of torrents, but none of them had seeders. :(

3b. I haven't been actively seeking out Merlin fic, but I came across this Merlin fratboy!AU and it's pretty fabulous (check out the sequel too!). The thing I like about fanfic, compared to original fiction, is that no matter what kind of crazy setting you throw the characters into, they are still essentially the characters you know and care about (the assumption here is that you're reading good!fic ;) none of that fanfiction.net stuff). It's like going out with good friends instead of meeting new strangers.

7. I've lost my train of thought. There are cherries downstairs and I want to eat 'em.

School and Other Icky Things are still gnawing away at my brains, but at least my GRE is over and done with (and wasn't the Most Awful Thing Ever, thanks to a ~*~miracle~*~ -- I really, really hope the computer didn't make a mistake) and I just handed in my thesis proposal this afternoon. So there's only nine thousand nine hundred and ninety-eight things on my to-do list.
Not being active on LJ for so long (being an active lurker doesn't count) and now coming back...feels weird. I want to get back into my LJ-groove~

1. CUTEOVERLOAD.COM: this site never fails to make me smile. I get such a goofy look on my face when I browse this site. Kitties and puppies and duckies and tiger...ies and UGH SO MUCH CUTE MY HEART IT CLENCHES SO ♥

1.5 I showed the site to my friend who loves babies 'cause I figured, hey, kitties and puppies and duckies and otter...ies are baby animals! Same deal, right? But nooo, she's all babies > cute animals, and I'm all, babies are overrated, and wargh, bad memories of a baby shower D: I never ever ever want to go to a baby shower again askd;lfj

2. I am still omgmassivelove over SGA. I kind of want to jump into the fandom fray, but the fandom is so big and established and it's all kind of intimidating, so I think I'm going to stick being a wallflower until this obsession passes. In other related news, I bought the first season on DVD (I confess, I bought it just for the extra features) and I hope it gets here this week. Then I can sit glued to the TV screen all weekend and marathon the show all by my lonesome.

3. So continuing with this getting-hooked-on-TV-shows-that-no-one-on-my-flist-watches trend, I stumbled across this new BBC show Merlin and decided to give it a shot because, dammit, I miss fantasy. The entire cast is gorgeous and the setting is pretty and the special effects are actually quite good and the plot is rather cheesy, but so much pretty and cuteness *waves hand vaguely* And did I mention that Merlin and Arthur are the same age and gorgeous and snarky with each other and alternately save each other's lives and there is so much slashy tension that you don't even need to don slash-goggles? As far as the female characters go, I'm not particularly impressed by Guinevere, and Nimue is a jerkface, but Morgana is all sorts of awesome and she doesn't let anyone be the boss of her.

Anyway, there are some lovely screencaps and totally brilliant summaries (beware of spoilers though) to be found here. I've been watching the episodes (5 episodes out so far) on Youtube (the video quality's quite good).

4. Omg, there is such thing as a liopleurodon. :O So didn't know that. Charlie the Unicorn is more educational than I'd thought.
