I figure the best way to get used to using the tablet (Neal :D) to draw is to trace a couple of sketches first. I pulled out two really old (and really messy) sketches and did a clean outline with the tablet.








Learning how to colour is going to be a nightmare. \o\

how has the transition been? i've been looking at buying a tablet just for digital sketches but i'm kind of at a loss of where to start :x

I've only played around with it for about two days, so I can't really speak for the full transition yet. ;) It's...tricky? I don't have the best hand-eye coordination, so the looking-at-the-screen-while-sketching thing is kind of throwing me for a loop. The surface is also quite different, but you can lay a thin piece of paper on top of the tablet. Having an undo function while sketching is really kind of awesome. :> What model are you considering? I bought a small and cheap one to play around with, since I'm way too much of a novice to consider the high-end Wacom tablets.

haven't considered any models in particular. someone suggested to look at the wacom brand and decide on the size that would work for me. a tablet would be useful in some of my designs and i'd like to get more illustration oriented but not sure if i need a pro tablet or anything.

It seems the general consensus on the internet is that Wacom makes the best tablets. :> Mine is part of their low-end line, Wacom Bamboo. I think Graphire is next, followed by Intuos (there's another one after Intuos, but it's ridiculously expensive and I can't remember the name). I guess it depends on what size you like to work with and how much pressure sensitivity you require.
