When I grow up (aka finish my degree and get a ~*real*~ job, i.e. be a professor), I want to be just like them. :D Being a grown up doesn't necessarily have to translate into being more concerned with ~*real life*~ -- it just means that I can combine my research interests with my fannish interests and have increased funding (i.e. a ~*real*~ salary) to pursue my fannish interests. :>

Also: people are all, like, yay, summer break is starting, and I'm all, oh noes, half of my summer break is over (and I totally don't have half of my project done D:)!

Also, I'm really enjoying Fangasm's interviews, too! Yay! (though, I have to admit, I was a little upset when I saw in their latest post that they actually liked The Last Airbender. I mean, really?)

Every time I tell someone that I'm in marketing, I always follow it up by explaining that it's more like social psychology than marketing marketing. We study anything and everything that is related to consumer behaviour. :>

I've only read the latest entry that was linked on the spnnewsletter. I'm surprised to hear that they liked TLA, especially since it seems that at least one of the pair (the psychologist) studies race and culture (among other things).

Reading their blog makes me jealous! I think they may have found the best of both worlds, in some ways, on this project.

Anyway, it's Thursday and even though it's been weeks and weeks since we're done it, I'm feeling a bit, where's fishpatrol? Where are our TV hangouts?

When we're done with our degrees, we're totally going to do the same thing (i.e. go on a road trip and interview B-list celebs and go to conventions, all under the guise of "doing research") -- right? right? :D

New season of White Collar next week! \o/ And new episode of Leverage on Sunday! There are no planned hiatuses for either of the shows throughout July and August, so we'll have our weekly TV nights again!

If you mean that seriously, I think I'm kind of on board. You know I've wanted to study fandom and there's plenty of crossover between our fields.

Okay, so I am on call on Sunday, but should be free on Tuesday. I feel like there are no guarantees to my schedule right now, but I suppose we're not watching live either way.

It's hard to predict what'll happen 5~6 years down the road (assuming I don't give up on this degree halfway through ;)), but I am mostly serious. I've actually thought about it a bit -- I mostly work with experimental designs and empirical testing, but some people in marketing and psychology do use qualitative methods (i.e. interviews) and I can look into them, and I think we can probably find enough overlap in our research interests to cobble a paper together. :>

White Collar is on at 9pm, so we might not be able to get the episode until Wednesday. We could save both Leverage and White Collar for Wednesday?

You know, there's no reason we can't start pursuing that now. I know we're both plenty busy with coursework, but something small scale might be really do-able.

Wednesday is a terrible, terrible night for me. Everything happens on Wednesdays. Do we really want to wait until Thursday every week, though?

We could do Leverage on Mondays and White Collar...whenever? We can always do a re-watch on Thursdays or Fridays if we can't meet up on Wednesday. Or we can meet up earlier on Wednesday, rather than in the evening. Idk, I'm fairly flexible -- we can change it up and meet on different days for different weeks. ;)

Flexibility is good! Mondays should work pretty well for Leverage, though :)

I'm just a bit surprised at how much time they have though, traveling around Canada and the US. One of them appears to be an assistant professor and from what I know of assistant professors, they have no life outside of research until they get tenured. X3;;

I know D: I could use a couple more months of break! ;)

lol wow...as soon as I started my MA I realised that academia sucks. I have someone who's an untenured professor on my flist, and she has NO TIME AT ALL for, like, anything.

I'm kind of surprised at how much time these two professors devote to traveling and interviewing and etc, especially since at least one of them is an assistant professor. I was originally thinking that maybe they were on sabbatical, but it's unlikely if they're nontenured. Idk, maybe some schools or some departments have more leeway with time allotment, or maybe they don't have teaching requirements...? Either way, these two seem to make it work. :>

Tbh, I have no idea. XD I'm pretty flexible in terms of where I want to work after I finish, whether at a primarily teaching school or a research-intensive school. I have a feeling the former would allow me more free time to pursue other interests.
