I don't need another fandom D:

So, I spent all afternoon and evening watching Stargate Atlantis (I watched the first half of the first episode of Iljimae too, but then I got derailed) and then spent all night reading SGA fic.
...Oh dear.

Date: 2008-07-28 11:16 am (UTC)I just started watching Stargate Atlantis a few weeks ago and am really enjoying it. It's a completely different feel, but still so so fun *heart*

Date: 2008-07-30 04:05 am (UTC)What season are you watching? I'm almost through with season three, but I still have to go back to season one and two.

What season are you watching?
I'm starting with season 1. I've been getting all my Stargate episodes from here (http://www.piggymoo.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2967). Originally I was just downloading SG-1, but they started putting up Atlantis eps too and I was really impressed so I'm going through them gradually.
I find I'm really liking Atlantis because it has a more modern feel than SG-1. Alot of the early SG-1 episodes are really heavy-handed late 90s stereotypical Sci-Fi eps. Atlantis is more, hip I guess? I've got to start watching more!

Date: 2008-08-01 04:08 am (UTC)I've been streaming the eps from alluc.org, but some of the links are dead, so I've got to find a new source (and it's hard to find because it's been too long since I've watched anything non-Asian! XD). Yay, I'm glad you're enjoying it too -- perhaps we can squee over it together sometime! ;D And just as an aside, Sheppard having the ATA gene struck me as so...fantasy-ish; you know, with the hero of the story having some sort of super special magical power to wield the super special magical weapon that no one else can? But maybe sci-fi has that cliche too and I just haven't read/watched enough to notice. XD;;

Date: 2008-08-01 10:46 pm (UTC)If you're looking for small files, this has the entire series (http://baixermvb.blogspot.com/2008/06/stargate-atlantis.html). They have Portuguese subtitles, but so do a lot of streamed versions. I download off this site alot when I want to see an episode of a show and delete it later.

I think you're right! I know 'genetics' is a really hot topic in Sci-Fi series (which is why I like them so much :p) but Atlantis definitely takes it in a more fantasy route. I find that, as a whole, Atlantis has a really fantasy feel to it. It's not so. . . testosterone filled.
The entire Stargate franchise, though, has always been funny and quirky. Really accessible to all sorts of fans.
Yay, I'm glad you're enjoying it too -- perhaps we can squee over it together sometime!
*laughs* If you don't finish the series too quickly, we should marathon part of the series one day :p Before school gets too busy. You'll be living in Toronto this year, right?
I suddenly really feel like watching more Atlantis. I suspect that I'll be glued to my computer this weekend.
Okay, I lied about the "wee bit" part. ;)
Haha. Any favorite ships, or anything like that?

Haha, very true, that!

We definitely should! I'm still skipping around with the episodes (and I've managed to spoil myself for the casting of season 4 because of what was showing on TV D:), but marathoning together would be fun. :D And yep, I'll be in Toronto this year -- I'm moving back in September. When are you moving to Mississauga? (that's where you'll be living, right?)
My favourite ship so far is Sheppard/McKay (the fanfics convinced me -- I'm easy like that D:), and I can't say that I'm too surprised by my choice. XD;; You?

Date: 2008-08-03 03:33 am (UTC)Yep. I'm living in the UTM graduate residences, which is kind of a pain because I have to take all my classes in Toronto :p I'll probably be there in early September. We don't pick classes until September 6th, and I'm not sure when they actually start. I'm looking to move in around September 1st or 2nd.
A marathon would be so fun though! We should do, like, the beginning of Season 5 or even 1 or 2. There won't be too many Season 5 episodes come September, though, so that might seem less daunting.
My favourite ship so far is Sheppard/McKay
Yay! And they were both in Season 1 so I totally know who you're talking about. I can definitely see that. Haha. Rodney is definitely one of those characters who grew on me over time. He annoyed me during his appearances on SG-1, but he seems great in Atlantis *heart*
Personally, I love all the Stargate pairings because they are so damn flexible. I haven't picked any from Atlantis yet (although Sheppard/McKay seems the obvious choice ;p) but I used to ship Jack and Daniel on SG-1. Then I realized that I liked Sam and felt guilty.

Date: 2008-08-04 02:15 am (UTC)Oh man, I just watched almost half of Season 1 today (I finally decided to stop watching random episodes and start from the very beginning). I'll totally be up for marathoning Season 5 in September! :D What season/episode are you on right now?
I just adore Rodney and his I-am-a-genius-and-I-know-it attitude. <3 He really does grow on you eventually, doesn't he, haha.
The more I watch, the more I'm convinced that John Sheppard could have easily stepped out of a fantasy storyline! He's got the luck, the charisma, the ability to narrowly escape trouble in the nick of time without any sort of logical explanation (personally, I think Rodney's more of a sci-fi main character type, being the technological genius and all -- well, if we set aside his cowardliness and his habit of ranting on and on ;)) -- John has a saving-people complex that could rival Harry Potter's. XD

Date: 2008-08-07 11:42 pm (UTC)I'm only at Episode 7 of Season 1 because I just restarted the series. Really enjoying it this time!! I'll work hard to get up to 5 by this September.
It does grow on you! My reaction when seeing him onscreen has gone from:
Two Months Ago: Ugh. Rodney
One Week Ago: Rodney!
Yesterday: Rodney *heart*
He really is fantastical. I love the colours and scenary used in Atlantis too, though. It's not so much the desolate landscape usually seen in SciFi, and more like the really colourful world-building in fantasy.

Date: 2008-08-12 03:17 am (UTC)I watched one episode of SG-1 (I think Season 10...? where Sheppard gives Col Mitchell a lemon to threaten Rodney with) where Rodney has a guest appearance, and wow, he really was annoying. It's so strange that his ranting and raving is endearing in SGA but so...jarring in SG-1.
the really colourful world-building in fantasy.
Mm, yes, especially the all the off-world scenes -- they look so Medieval!fantasy-ish. I think that might be one of the reasons I grew to like SGA so much -- I'm definitely more of a fantasy fan than a sci-fi one.

Date: 2008-08-13 03:52 am (UTC)And marathoning TV shows is ALWAYS the best way to procrastinate studying for an exam. Sometimes I'll watch while I study and hit two birds with one stone (of course, it will take me 3 hours to read through a single page. . .)
I think maybe they had a difficult time writing Rodney's character into the SG-1 universe. The doctors and scientists in that series are really altruistic, so I think Rodney's character ended up coming off more arrogant than he really is. I did not like him at ALL until your entries me to start watching more Atlantis. Now he's one of my favorites :p
It's weird, though. I really liked the SG-1/Atlantis crossover in the beginning of the Atlantis pilot. I think they did a much better job on that one.
