After taking that Gender Roles/Behaviour course, I've become especially sensitive to gender stereotypes and the like. A little while ago, I couldn't even watch TV without pointing and yelling, "that commercial! It's promoting traditional gender roles!" XD Some of my RL friends are very much with the "guys shouldn't show emotion" and the "I would rather my boyfriend take the first step" etc, and when I ask them why, I never get satisfactory answers.
I guess some people are more willing to go with the status quo. But for me, being expected to behave in a way that doesn't make sense to me (how is it beneficial to me if I were to always depend on a man?) just doesn't sit well with me. XD And seeing this sort of ideology being so heavily promoted in media (books, TV shows, manga, and whatnot) bothers me on some level too.
